[Full Story] Reports reaching Africa Billboard confirm that former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings is dead. Doctor confirmed JJ Rawlings dead earlier today on 12th November, 2020.
Daily Graphic reported not long ago that the former President had been on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital – Ghana for about a week for an undisclosed ailment he battled. He died at age 73.
Just last month October, the ex-president announced the lost and burial of his mother.
Jerry John Rawlings was loved by all Ghanaians and Africa for how he ruled Ghana. He was nicknamed Papa-J because he has been the oldest president to be alive after Ghana became a republic.
Brief History
Jerry John Rawlings was born in Accra, Ghana on 22nd June 1947 to a Ghanaian mother from Dzelukope, near Keta in the Volta Region and a father from Scotland.
He was a lead member of the Ghana Armed Forces and a successive politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979. JJ Rawlings led a military junta until 1992 where he served two-terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana.
He was the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) political party in Ghana and the master brain behind the 1992 constitutional reforms which has benefited Ghana till date.
